Mobile value-added services market set to grow at 50%

The mobile value-added services (MVAS) market is expected to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 50 per cent.

Thus, the revenues from MVAS (excluding person-to-person SMS) are expected to be around $348.8 million (around Rs 1,395 crore) by 2009, says a report by Boston Analytics— a knowledge process outsourcing firm.

While the MVAS market is growing, there might be a few challenges including the revenues sharing model.

Study says mobile content ready to explode in India

Boston Analytics, a market research firm, all but said to U.S. mobile application developers and other content providers, "Pack your bags and move east," but to India, not to the east coast.

The reason, according to the report released on Tuesday called "A Study of the MVAS (mobile value added services) Market in India," is that India has 100 million cell phone subscribers plus a growth rate pegged at 50 percent a year, and a highly favorable regulatory climate that makes the country potentially a huge market for mobile content.

In addition to favorable legislation and a decline in tariffs, the commoditization of mobile phones has grown along with a growing middle class that has discretionary income to spend.

Dr. Arthur Schleifer joins Boston Analytics’ Advisory Board
Boston Analytics is pleased to announce that Dr. Arthur Schleifer has joined the Boston Analytics’ advisory board. Dr. Schleifer, the James J. Hill Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus, at Harvard Business School, has led a distinguished career in academia with teaching positions at Amos Tuck School (Dartmouth College), Harvard Business School, NYU, the Insitituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empressa and SDA Bocconi. He is the author of numerous publications in statistics, data analysis, and decision making. He has also served as a consultant to and provided expert testimony for numerous Fortune 100 companies.

Ted Thorbjornsen joins Boston Analytics full-time as a Principal
Boston Analytics is pleased to announce that Ted Thorbjornsen has joined Boston Analytics as a principal and head of all technology research and analytical services. Ted has spent his career conducting research, analyzing opportunities and developing new business for technology companies. Prior to co-founding Boston Analytics, Ted was a business manager at Keithley Instruments, a manufacturer of highly accurate instruments for R&D and high-volume production testing. In this position, Ted successfully grew his business unit by over 45% in the face of an economic downturn. He had P&L responsibility for several precision instruments, three of which have won national awards for innovation including the prestigious R&D 100 award.

From 1990 to 1998, Ted worked first as a research scientist for Telenor, the leading telecommunications company in Norway, in the fields of opto-electronics and semiconductor materials and components. He was later promoted to senior advisor with Telenor coordinating their research efforts across Europe. As a result of these experiences, Ted has developed deep expertise in sizing markets, identifying trends and conducting competitive analyses for technology products.

Ted received his Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and his MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He has published over 20 articles and reports, many by The European Commission, as well as, written a high school technology textbook. He has been a guest speaker at Case Western University’s Weatherhead School of Management, as well as at several technology conferences. Ted has also given numerous international seminars on measurement technologies.
