MANAGEMENT TEAM
Boston Analytics’ management team draws upon a diversity of backgrounds in both business and academia. Boston Analytics’ executives and analysts bring decades of diverse industry experience from Global 1000 and emerging companies, from consulting firms such as McKinsey & Co. and CRA International, and from financial institutions such as Lexington Partners and Oppenheimer and Co. Our team includes graduates from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Indian Institutes of Management, the Indian Institutes of Technology, and other prestigious institutions.
Rashid Bilimoria
Co-Founder and Managing Director
Rashid Bilimoria has more than 14 years of global experience in business consulting and entrepreneurship. In his role as a strategy consultant, he has helped leading companies develop, define, and execute their business strategies. Prior to co-founding Boston Analytics, Rashid worked at Charles River Associates (CRA), where he managed projects for various Fortune 500 companies both in the United States and abroad. Previously, Rashid co-founded Mumbai-based Bilimoria Foods and Beverages, which spawned nationally recognized retail brands such as Smokin’ Joe’s. He has also worked in the financial sector for a top-tier chartered accounting firm in London. Rashid received his BA from Grinnell College and his MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
Ted Thorbjornsen
Co-Founder and Managing Director
Ted Thorbjornsen has spent more than 15 years as a business and technology executive. As a business manager at Keithley Instruments, Ted’s responsibilities included growth and profit for the company’s research markets and also various electronic manufacturing markets. In the face of an economic downturn, Ted grew his business unit by over 50 percent over three years. From 1990 to 1998, Ted worked for Norwegian telecom company Telenor in the fields of optoelectronics and semiconductors. Ted received his MS in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and his MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
Urvil Modi
Chief Executive Officer
Urvil has more than nine years of professional experience in the area of corporate strategic planning, corporate finance and M&A. His previous assignments include working on corporate strategic planning and annual business planning exercise at a US$ 8 B metals and mining conglomerate, Vedanta Resources, Plc. At Vedanta, he played a crucial role in an organization wide initiative, helped by McKinsey & Co to restructure the conglomerate across specific business lines to enable efficient and professional management of multiple businesses. He also played an active part in Vedanta’s corporate finance activities, working on capital raising activities worth US$ 2 B, acquisitions worth US$ 1.5 B, and internal investments worth US$ 1 B. At Larsen & Toubro, an engineering and construction conglomerate with US$ 8 B in revenues, he contributed to the power business group by helping structure financials bids for the power plants.
At Boston Analytics, Urvil has been involved in advising corporations, management consulting firms and PE/IB clients. He has led projects across various domains in India, Europe and the US working closely with our teams based in India. His assignments at Boston Analytics include a fair mix of business opportunity assessment, due diligence, strategic opportunity identification and setting up dedicated research teams for our global clients.
Urvil received his engineering degree from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore.
Gautham Parthasarathy Ph.D.
Chief Marketing Officer
15 years proven track record in securing profitable growth for Fortune 500 public & private firms in the US, Europe, Japan, Mexico, India & China. He has extensive sector experience in food & beverages, chemicals, materials, clean tech, energy & e-commerce. Prior to joining Boston Analytics, Gautham was the Global Manager, Corporate Strategy & Development at Celanese, a $5 billion integrated specialty chemicals producer based in Dallas, Texas. Prior to that, he had held the position of Global Commercial Development Manager, Innovation & Growth at Solutia, a specialty chemicals manufacturer. Gautham’s diverse professional experience includes:
- He has executed &/or evaluated 10+ M&A transactions across complete transaction lifecycle from deal origination through valuation, due diligence, negotiation, & closing
- He has conceived & launched organic growth B2B marketing & new business development initiatives in a variety of sectors.
- He has directed strategy including portfolio planning, regional expansion, technology licensing, and application innovation
- He has done Doctoral research related to integrated clean tech solutions. He has consulted with the US Department of Energy (DOE) & the US National Academy of Engineering and has also reviewed 150+ clean tech & energy proposals over five years & recommended top proposals for government funding
Gautham has received his MBA in Finance from the New York University’s Stern School of Business where he was the class valedictorian. He has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University where he graduated top of his class. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bombay (UDCT) graduating at the top 5% of his class.
Atul Tandon
Vice President, Business Research
Atul brings with him ten years of industry experience handling key decision making positions with leading conglomerates Aditya Birla Group and ITC. During his initial years at Aditya Birla Group, Atul has handled implementation of value based management for the fertilizer business. As a business financial controller at ITC, Atul was associated with setting up of the commodities supply chain and rural marketing network, “e-choupal” in some of the largest states in India. During this period, he developed the distribution incentive structure and logistic network for feeding the rural market. More recently, at BA, Atul has handled assignments for consumer products and healthcare companies, globally, in identifying growth opportunities, service design and has helped clients in identifying competitive position through extensive quantitative as well as qualitative analysis . Atul is a qualified Chartered Accountant and an MBA from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
Kimberlee Luce
Vice President, Consumer Research
Kimberlee Luce has led research and consulting engagements for more than 15 years. At Boston Analytics, she oversees research for corporate and professional services clients and co-heads the healthcare practice. Previously, Kimberlee was a principal consultant with Abt Associates, focusing on healthcare market sizing and segmentation, new market entry, new product design and launches, and database development. Earlier, she was a partner at Saltworks, a marketing strategy and design firm, and a management consultant with the Mitchell Madison Group. Kimberlee received her MBA from Case Western Reserve University and was a Weatherhead Merit Scholar, John Corrigan Fellow, and 1993–94 Fulbright Scholar in South Asia.
Aparna Joshi
Vice President, Financial Research
Aparna has over 10 years of experience in the areas of corporate finance and equity research. Her previous stint was as Country Manager with Independent Research Pvt. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of a UK-based research firm specializing in global equities. At Independent Research Pvt. Ltd., she managed a 35 member analyst team which covered 200+ stocks, primarily in sectors, such as, telecom, semiconductors, software, consumer electronics, transportation and utilities. She also possesses experience in the structuring of both debt and equity financing for expansion and greenfield projects as well as multilateral funded projects. More recently, at BA, she managed engagements covering credit research, M&A support and due-diligence as well as valuation opinions. She has an undergraduate degree in Economics and Statistics from Mumbai University and an MBA in Finance from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.
Dr. Sam Thomas
Advisor, Financial Services
Dr. Sam Thomas leads Boston Analytics’ financial product development team and provides senior leadership to Boston Analytics’ financial services and corporate finance advisory practices. An expert on how the global macro business cycle impacts corporate finance and investment, Sam integrates academic research with product development for financial advisors and money managers. He frequently contributes to institutional investor conferences around the world and has served as a senior research fellow at the Advest Institute, the MONY-Securities Institute, and the AXA Institute. Sam received his MS and PhD in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, his MBA from the College of William and Mary, and his MA (Honors) in Economics from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science. Sam has won six single-winner teaching excellence awards as a member of the banking and finance faculty at Case Western Reserve’s Weatherhead School of Management.
